VIALLE E ADAMO PROTAGONISTI PER LA FRANCIA E L’ITALIA ALL’EPICA 76ª MOTOCROSS DELLE NAZIONI

La gloria appartiene a Tom Vialle e Andrea Adamo mentre il Team Francia e il Team Italia si classificavano al 1° e al 3° posto nella 76ª Motocross delle Nazioni.

La pittoresca località di Ernee nel nord della Francia era bagnata da un caldo sole e la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing chiudeva ufficialmente la stagione di motocross 2023 di fronte a una folla monumentale nell’evento internazionale più importante di motocross dell’anno. Vialle si piazzava al 1° posto assoluto nella classe MX2, mentre Adamo era 4° con le loro KTM 250 SX-F. Liam Everts si classificava ottimo 2° assoluto nella categoria MX Open con la KTM 350 SX-F, mentre il Belgio si classificava al 5° posto.

La Motocross delle Nazioni annuale raggiungeva la 76ª edizione e visitava il suggestivo circuito di Ernee dopo le edizioni precedenti del 2005 e del 2015 sullo stretto e ventoso tracciato francese.

La gara a squadre unica nel motorsport era seguita da una folla al completo di 100.000 spettatori (dato del weekend) e il tempo caldo e soleggiato dell’autunno riscaldava entrambe le giornate di azione con 37 diverse nazioni partecipanti.

Vialle si distingueva per i vincitori della Francia con un 2° e un 8° posto contro le moto più grandi, mentre Adamo otteneva un 4° e un 18° per l’Italia, entrambi i piloti salivano sul podio del MXoN per la prima volta. Liam Everts era il miglior pilota del Belgio con un 3° e un 10° posto nella categoria MX Open. Il Belgio si classificava al 5° posto nella classifica finale, alla pari di Svizzera, ma conquistava il quinto posto grazie a punteggi superiori.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing era rappresentata anche da Aaron Plessinger per il Team USA con le moto KTM 450 SX-F, KTM 350 SX-F e KTM 250 SX-F che si facevano strada sui terreni francesi. La 77ª edizione del ‘MXoN’ si terrà nel vasto circuito di Matterley Basin nel Regno Unito nel 2024, la terza volta che l’evento ospiterà questa tappa del Gran Premio.

Situata a breve distanza a ovest di Le Mans, Ernee ha creato una sua leggenda nel motorsport e un posto speciale nel cuore degli appassionati di motocross. Il luogo ha ospitato semi-regolarmente la tappa francese di MXGP per decenni, ma ha anche ospitato eventi entusiasticamente accolti della Motocross delle Nazioni nel 2005 e nel 2015. Ancora una volta, la folla, i colori e la follia scendevano sul circuito fuori dalla pittoresca e storica città per vedere i migliori tre piloti selezionati da ciascun paese competere in un’unica giornata per il trofeo Peter Chamberlain.

Il Team USA era il campione in carica e aveva tra i suoi rappresentanti il fuoriclasse Red Bull KTM, Aaron Plessinger, per la sua seconda apparizione con la squadra. ‘AP’ aveva faticato con l’impostazione e il feeling sul circuito durante la sua prima visita fuori dal Nord America. Si piazzava al 5° e al 18° posto, con gli americani classificati all’8° posto.

Il doppio Campione del Mondo MX2 Tom Vialle tornava alla terra europea dopo una stagione di debutto nella competizione AMA nel 2023. Vialle indossava la livrea della nazione di casa ed era sostenuto calorosamente ad ogni giro nella luminosa e soleggiata giornata di gara della domenica. Vialle, la cui ultima apparizione in Europa era stata la memorabile vittoria del titolo nel 2022 al Gran Premio di Turchia, era veloce e motivato e il miglior pilota MX2 della giornata, affrontando le 450 in entrambe le gare.

Il secondo posto di Tom nella seconda manche lo vedeva distante solo 0,8 secondi dal compagno di squadra francese Maxime Renaux. Tom conquistava la classe MX2 alla sua seconda gara in carriera per la sua bandiera.

Il successore di Vialle nel campionato MX2 2022 era Andrea Adamo e il pilota Red Bull KTM era al centro dell’attenzione per il Team Italia. Una caduta nella prima manche significava che l’18° posto di Andrea era il risultato “jolly” che la squadra scartava, ma il suo eccellente 4° posto nella seconda gara era il migliore della giornata per l’Italia. Si classificava come il 4° miglior pilota MX2 a Ernee.

Per la terza volta nel Team Belgio, nonostante i suoi teneri 19 anni, c’era Liam Everts, che si cimentava nella categoria MX Open e sceglieva di guidare la KTM 350 SX-F. Liam era il migliore per il suo paese grazie a un 3° e un 10° posto e a un ottimo secondo posto nella categoria MX Open. I belgi si classificavano al 5° posto nella classifica finale, alla pari con la Svizzera, ma ottenevano il quinto posto grazie a punteggi superiori.

Tom Vialle, 2° e 8° per il 1° posto assoluto nella classe MX2. 1° per il Team Francia: “Ho avuto un weekend fantastico e sono felice di essere tornato. Ernee è una pista che mi piace davvero. Ho vinto la gara di qualificazione ma la prima gara non è stata così facile. Non riuscivo a sentirmi così a mio agio perché era abbastanza scivolosa, ma la seconda è stata molto meglio. I fan sono stati incredibili. Siamo venuti qui per vincere e l’abbiamo fatto.”

Liam Everts, 3° e 10° per il 2° posto assoluto nella classe MX Open. 5° per il Team Belgio: “Mi sento abbastanza bene! È stata una giornata difficile, una giornata lunga. Stavo andando bene nella prima manche ma mi sono un po’ nervoso nella seconda parte. Comunque, finire terzo significava che la giornata era iniziata molto bene.

Ho commesso un errore da principiante all’inizio della seconda manche ma ho continuato a lottare e ho finito decimo. 2° nella classe Open, quindi sono molto contento della classifica generale individuale. Ovviamente come squadra abbiamo fatto quello che potevamo. È fantastico finire la stagione così.

Negli anni precedenti le lesioni hanno messo fine presto alle cose per me. Ho guardato a questa gara come un bambino sapendo che era la ‘grande’ e quindi essere qui e gareggiare in queste posizioni è stato piuttosto bello.”

Andrea Adamo, 18° e 4° per il 4° posto assoluto nella classe MX2. 3° per il Team Italia: “Un weekend fantastico per noi, anche se ho avuto alcuni problemi sabato e nella prima manche con alcune cadute. Non ero super felice e non stavo bene, ma è stato anche divertente essere qui e questo contava molto.

Il mio miglior start nella seconda manche significava che potevo fare alcuni sorpassi e lottare per il terzo posto. Ero felice di prendere il quarto posto perché questo risultato complessivo significa molto per noi. Le altre squadre avevano molta più esperienza, quindi questo sembra una vittoria.”

Aaron Plessinger, 5° e 18° per il 9° posto assoluto nella classe MXGP. 8° per il Team USA: “Mi sentivo abbastanza bene venendo qui e davvero bene per oggi. Avevo il 5° posto nella prima manche e sono diventato un po’ teso, ma non sono sicuro di cosa sia successo nella seconda manche.

Sono partito nel gruppo di mezzo e sono indietreggiato a metà strada. Non è stata una buona conclusione, ma dopo 32 gare in una stagione credo che abbiamo fatto abbastanza bene. Non posso paragonare la pista a nulla. Era difficile e questi ragazzi sono duri per correre così veloce su di essa.

È fantastico rappresentare il tuo paese e un peccato che non siamo riusciti a salire sul podio. Era la mia prima volta all’estero; abbastanza selvaggio. Significa il mondo per me rappresentare l’America qui in Francia. Torneremo a casa, faremo una pausa e ci prepareremo per il supercross.”

VIALLE AND ADAMO STAR FOR FRANCE AND ITALY AT EPIC 76TH MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS

Glory belonged to Tom Vialle and Andrea Adamo as Team France and Team Italy classified 1st and 3rd at the 76th Motocross of Nations. The steep valley setting of Ernee in northern France basked in hot sunshine and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing officially closed the 2023 motocross season in front of a momentous crowd at the biggest international off-road motorcycle event of the year.

Vialle rode to 1st overall in the MX2 class while Adamo was 4th with their KTM 250 SX-Fs. Liam Everts was an excellent 2nd overall in the MX Open category with the KTM 350 SX-F as Belgium classified 5th. The annual Motocross of Nations reaches edition #76 and visits the atmospheric Ernee circuit after previous incarnations in 2005 and 2015 at the hard-packed, narrow and windy French track.

The unique team race in motorsports is watched by a capacity 100,000 attendance (weekend figure) and warm, sunny autumn weather for both days of action as 37 different countries fill the entry list Vialle shines for winners France with 2-8 against the bigger bikes and Adamo take 4-18 for Italy as both riders walk the MXoN podium for the first time. The 77th ‘MXoN’ will take place at the expansive Matterley Basin circuit in the UK for 2024; the third time that the Grand Prix staple will welcome the event

Located a short distance west of Le Mans, Ernee has created its own motorsport folklore and a special place in the hearts of off-road motorcycle racing fans. The venue has been a semi-regular host of the French round of MXGP for decades but also staged rapturously received Motocross of Nations events in 2005 and 2015.

Once more the crowds, colors and craziness descended on the circuit outside of the quaint and historic town to watch the best three riders selected from each country compete on a single day for the Peter Chamberlain trophy.

Team USA were reigning champions and counted Red Bull KTM ace Aaron Plessinger among their triple for the charismatic racer’s second appearance for his country. ‘AP’ struggled for set-up and feeling around the track on his first visit outside of North America. He rode to 5-18 as the Americans classified 8th.

Double MX2 World Champion Tom Vialle returned to European dirt after a debut season in AMA competition in 2023. Vialle wore the livery of the home nation and was passionately cheered on every lap of a bright and sunny raceday on Sunday. Vialle, whose last meeting in Europe was his memorable 2022 title win at the Grand Prix of Turkey, was fast and motivated and the best MX2 racer on the day as he lined-up against 450s in both outings. Tom’s 2nd place in the second moto saw him just 0.8 of a second from Team France teammate Maxime Renaux. Tom conquered the MX2 class in just his second career run for his flag.

The successor to Vialle’s 2022 MX2 world championship was Andrea Adamo and the Red Bull KTM man was in the spotlight for Team Italy. A crash in the first moto meant Andrea’s 18th was the ‘joker’ result that squad dropped but his excellent 4th place in the second race was the highest of the day for the Italian. He was the 4th best MX2 rider in Ernee.

Making his third appearance for Team Belgium, despite his tender 19 years, was Liam Everts who entered the MX Open category and elected to steer the KTM 350 SX-F. Liam was the best for his country thanks to a 3-10 and a very decent runner-up ranking in MX Open. The Belgians were 5th in the final standings, tying on points with Switzerland but earning the top five thanks to their superior scores.

I won the Qualifying race but the first race wasn’t so easy. I couldn’t get that comfortable because it was pretty slippery and the second one was way-better. The fans were amazing. We came here to win and we did it.”

Liam Everts, 3rd and 10th for 2nd overall in MX Open class. 5th for Team Belgium: “I feel pretty good! It was a tough day, a long day. I was doing well in the first moto but got a little nervous in the second part. Still, to finish 3rd meant the day had started so well. I made a bit of a rookie mistake at the start of the second moto but kept on fighting and finished 10th. 2nd in the Open class so I’m very pleased with the individual overall ranking. Obviously as a team we did what we could. It’s great to end the season like this. In previous years injuries finished things early for me. I looked at this race as a little boy knowing it was the ‘big one’ and so to be here and racing in those positions was pretty cool.”

Andrea Adamo, 18th and 4th for 4th overall in MX2 class. 3rd for Team Italy: “An amazing weekend for us even if I had some issues on Saturday and the first moto with some crashes. I wasn’t super-happy and not feeling great but it was also fun to be here and that counted for a lot. My better start in the second moto meant I could make some passes and battle for P3. I was happy to take P4 because this overall result means a lot for us. The other teams had much more experience and so this feels like a win.”

Aaron Plessinger, 5th and 18th for 9th overall in MXGP class. 8th for Team USA: “I felt pretty good coming here and really good for today. I had 5th in the first moto and got a little tight but I’m not sure what happened second moto. I had a mid-pack start and just faded back about half-way. Not a good ending but after 32 races in a season I think we did alright. I cannot compare the track to anything. It was gnarly and these guys are gnarly for riding it that fast. It’s awesome to represent your country and a shame we could not get on the podium. It was my first time overseas; pretty wild. It means the world to me to represent America over here in France. We’ll go home, have a break and get ready for supercross.”.
