Inizio di stagione positivo per il Team SM Action Yamaha in Inghilterra. In quel di Matterley Basin, Renaux sfiora la ‘top 10’ in classifica di giornata della MX2. In MXGP, Henry Jacobi chiude nono assoluto grazie a due solide manche.

Dopo otto anni, il FIM Motocross World Championship ha scelto un tracciato europeo per aprire la nuova stagione agonistica è la scelta degli organizzatori è ricaduta sullo spettacolare tracciato inglese di Matterley Basin, poco fuori la città di Winchester, nel sud dell’Inghilterra.
Il giorno antecedente la gara, la pioggia copiosa è il forte vento hanno danneggiato numerose strutture presenti in pista e gli organizzatori sono stati costretti a modificare il Timetable, posticipando l’ingresso in pista dei piloti e cancellando le gare di qualifica delle classi MXGP ed MX2. Di conseguenza, i piloti si son dovuti guadagnare il loro posto in griglia di partenza nell’unica sessione di prove cronometrate al termine delle quali, i piloti del Team SM Action Yamaha si sono così classificati: Henry Jacobi #29 7° nella classe MXGP e Maxime Renuax #959, 15° nella classe MX2.
Maxime Renaux in gara a Matterley Basin
Nella quarto di litro, il risultato finale di gara 1 per Maxime è fortemente influenzato da un inizio di gara difficile che vede il francese tra gli ultimi piloti in classifica dopo due errori commessi nel corso del primo giro. L’alfiere del Team SM Action Yamaha non si è però dato per vinto e nelle tredici tornate di gara, ha dato vita ad una furiosa rimonta che lo ha portato ha tagliare il traguardo in 13a posizione, dando prova di un ottimo ritmo di gara e di una buona condizione fisica. Nella seconda manche, l’uscita dai blocchi di partenza di Renaux è stata decisamente migliore con il transalpino che si posiziona subito all’interno della ‘top 5’. Sino al sesto giro Maxime occupa saldamente la 4a piazza ma l’arrivo improvviso della pioggia peggiora la sicurezza del tracciato e Maxime decide di non rischiare calando il ritmo. Subisce così alcuni sorpassi e chiude 8°. A fine giornata, si classifica 11°.
Positivo esordio per Henry Jacobi in MXGP
L’esordio mondiale di Henry Jacobi nella classe regina è da considerarsi anch’esso più che positivo. Il tedesco si è reso protagonista di due solide manche coadiuvate da due buone partenze che sin dai primi giri lo hanno proiettato nella posizioni di testa. Nella prima frazione di gara, Henry transita 8° sul traguardo dopo il primo passaggio e al termine delle tredici tornate, conclude 10°. Nella seconda frazione di gara, lo spunto in uscita dal cancelletto è ottimo e la Yamaha #29 taglia per prima la linea bianca conquistando l’holeshot. Dopo alcuni giri iniziali condotti in 6a posizione, Jacobi completa la manche con un 9° posto. A fine giornata, la classifica generale lo accredita del 9° posto assoluto.
Il prossimo round del FIM Motocross World Championship è in programma per il weekend del 7/8 Marzo sullo storico tracciato di Valkenswaard, in Olanda.
Maxime Renaux #959: “E’ stata una prima gara difficile per me, anche a causa delle qualifiche basate solo sul giro veloce e di conseguenza mi sono classificato 15°. In gara 1 sono partito bene ma ho allargato troppo la prima curva e sono caduto due volte ma poi ho recuperato bene con una bella rimonta. In gara 2 sono ugualmente partito bene: ero 4° e mi accingevo ad attaccare il terzo classificato ma ha iniziato a piovere e dopo aver corso qualche rischio, ho calato il ritmo finendo 8°. A fine giornata mi sono classificato 11°, non sono pienamente soddisfatto ma va bene come prima gara. Non vedo l’ora di tornare in pista, domenica saremo a Valkenswaard e voglio dare il massimo!”

Team SM Action Yamaha had a good start of the season in England. At Matterley Besin circuit, Renaux touched the ‘top 10’ of the day in the MX2. In the MXGP Henry Jacobi finished 9th after two solid races.
After eight years, FIM Motocross World Championship chose an European track for the opening of the season, so the organizers picked up the spectacular English circuit of Matterley Basin, which is located just outside Winchester, in the south of England.
The day before the race, a heavy rain and a strong wind ruined a lot of the structures of the circuit, so the organizers were forced to edit the Timetable, cancelling the Qualifying Races of MXGP and MX2 and postponing the entrance of the riders to the track. Consequently, the riders had to gain their grid position in the only session of Timed Practice. Team SM Action Yamaha riders qualified 7th in the MXGP (Henry Jacobi #29) and 15th in the MX2 (Maxime Renaux #959).
In the smaller class, the final result of Maxime was heavily influenced by a beginning of the race that was hard, as the French was in the last positions after two mistakes made during the first lap. Team SM Action Yamaha bearer did not give up though, and in 13 laps-time he made a furious recover that made him passing the checkered flag in 13th place, proving that he had an excellent race pace and a good physical shape. In Race 2 the French exit the starting gate in a better way, and he placed himself in the ‘top 5’ straight away. Until lap 6 Maxime was firmly occupying the 4th place, but the sudden arrival of the rain worsen the safety of the track and he decided to avoid any risks and he slowed down. He was overtaken by a few riders and he finished 8th. At the end of the day he was in 11th position.
The debut in the top class of the World Championship was very positive for Henry Jacobi too. The German made two solid races and two good starts, so in the first laps he was already in the top places. In Race 1, he was 8th after lap 1, and after the 13 laps he was 10th. In Race 2 he had an excellent exit from the starting gate so the In Race 2 he had an excellent exit from the starting gate so the Yamaha #29 made the holeshot. After a few laps he moved back to 6th place and at the end of the race Jacobi was 9th. In the general classification of the day he finished 9th.
The next round of the FIM Motocross World Championship is scheduled for the weekend of the 7th and the 8th of March at the historical circuit of Valkenswaard, in Holland.
Maxime Renaux # 959: “It was a difficult first race for me, also because of the qualifications based only on the fastest lap and consequently I finished 15th. In race 1 I started well but in the first corner I crashed twice but then I put in a good comeback. In race 2 I started equally well: I was 4th and I was going to attack the third place but it started to rain and after taking some risks, I dropped the pace finishing 8th. At the end of the day I finished 11th, I am not fully satisfied but it is a good first race. I can’t wait to get back on track, we will be in Valkenswaard on Sunday and I want to give my best! ”
