Un viaggio di oltre duemila chilometri ha portato il Team SM Action Yamaha in Portogallo, per la sesta prova del Mondiale MX2. Quella di Agueda è una pista molto spettacolare ma poco selettiva. Lo dimostra il fatto che nelle prove cronometrate i primi venti erano racchiusi in un paio di secondi.
Michele Cervellin e Maxime Renaux sono usciti dalle crono con tempi simili. Il francese ha strappato il 13esimo tempo, 0.011 millesimi meglio dell’italiano che però è rimasto danneggiato da un pilota che lo stava precedendo mentre stava effettuando il suo miglior tentativo.
Posizione quindi ravvicinata al cancello di partenza della gara di qualifica, con Cervellin che “stacca” meglio di Renaux ed al primo passaggio si presenta nei primi dieci mentre Maxime è 16esimo. Come dicevamo questa pista livella le prestazioni dei vari piloti, ed il fatto che la gara di qualifica è dieci minuti più corta della manche di gara, rimontare posizioni è difficile. Per questo fatto sul traguardo Cervellin è ottavo (bene comunque in vista delle due gare del giorno dopo) e Renaux è 15esimo.
La prima manche ha un inizio esaltante per Michele Cervellin che fa un’ottima partenza e si mette alle spalle di Prado, in quel momento primo. Pur scivolando al quarto posto, per sei giri Michele tiene il ritmo dei primi ma nell’affrontare un salto in discesa si scompone e finisce a terra. Nella caduta gli esce ma rientra immediatamente la clavicola destra, e non gli è possibile continuare. Per contro Maxime Renaux, dopo essere stato convolto in una caduta di gruppo alla seconda curva, effettua una rimonta fantastica chiusa al nono posto.
Seconda manche fotocopia della prima a differenza però che non ci sono problemi e tutto va per il meglio. I due ragazzi del Team SM Action Yamaha “staccano” benissimo al via ritrovandosi uno quinto, Cervellin, e l’altro settimo, Renaux. Per metà gara sono appaiati poi Maxime rompe gli indugi e passa Michele a sua volta superato da Olsen. Il vantaggio del francese sull’italiano dura soltanto due giri perchè una piccola scivolata lo fa retrocedere nono.
Nella classifica di giornata Maxime Renaux con due noni posti è ottimo quinto assoluto con 24 punti. Michele Cervellin è quindicesimo ma il suo è un piazzamento finale bugiardo, visto lo zero patito nella prima manche.
Settimana prossima si replica con il GP di Francia dove sarà di scena anche l’Europeo EMX250.

EXCELLENT FINAL FIFTH PLACE FOR MAXIME RENAUX
STOIC MICHELE CERVELLIN, WHO TOOK PART TO RACE 2 DESPITE OF AN INJURY AT HIS COLLARBONE
Team SM Action Yamaha went to Portugal, for the sixth round of the MX2 World Championship, after a more than two thousand kilometers trip. Agueda is a spectacular but not selective circuit. The demonstration of it is that after Timed Practice the Top 20 was included in a two-seconds gap only.
Michele Cervellin and Maxime Renaux had similar lap times. The French signed for the 13th fastest lap time, only 11 thousands-of-a-second faster than the Italian, who had his lap ruined by the rider in front of him while he was making his personal best.
The riders were then really close at the starting gate of Qualifying Race. Cervellin had a better start than Renaux and he was in the Top 10 after the first lap, while Maxime was 16th. As said before, this circuit put to the same level all riders’ performances, and considering that Qualifying Race is 10 minutes shorter than the actual races, the recovery was hard. For this reason, at the checkered flag Cervellin was 8th (however, a good result for the next day’s races) and Renaux was 15th.
In Race 1 Michele Cervellin had an exciting start: he put his bike in second place just behind Prado, the leader. Even though he moved back to the 4th place, for six laps Michele kept the pace of the best riders. Unfortunately, while he was facing up to a downhill jump, he lost balance and he fell off. His collarbone went out of place immediately so he was forced to retire. Maxime Renaux, instead, made an excellent recovery after a group crash that happened at turn 2 and he finished in 9th place.
Race 2 was a copy of Race 1, with only one difference: nothing went wrong and the riders had no issues. Team SM Action Yamaha boys started the race very well: Cervellin was 5th while Renaux was 7th. For half of the race they stayed together, but then Maxime decided to go and he overtook Michele (who was overtaken by Olsen too). The advantage of the French lasted two laps only, as he slipped and he moved back to the 9th position.
In the Daily Overall classification Maxime Renaux finished in 5th place with 24 points, an excellent result. Michele Cervellin finished 15th but his placement includes the zero of Race 1, which has faken his overall performance.
Next week the circus will move to France, where the EMX250 European Championship will take place too.
