24/03/2019 – FIM Motocross World Championship – RND #2 – MXGP of Great Britain, Matterley Basin
Dopo la trasferta in Argentina il Mondiale MX2 approda in Europa sulla spettacolare e veloce pista di Matterley Basin. Tracciato perfetto e risparmiato dalla pioggia che in questo periodo in terra inglese, è una rarità.
Il GP per i portacolori del Team SM Action Yamaha è iniziato bene già dalle prove cronometrate. Renaux fa segnare l’undicesimo tempo, Cervellin il quindicesimo. Nella gara di qualifica Maxime è decimo mentre Michele, nonostante una partenza non buona, chiude due posizioni dietro al francese.
La prima manche è stata interpretata molto bene da tutti e due i piloti. Alla conclusione del primo giro Cervellin transita sesto e Renaux decimo. La battaglia è dura perchè si formano un paio di gruppetti che si danno battaglia ma la velocità di Cervellin e Renaux è molto buona. Sembra andare tutto per il verso giusto ma mentre Cervellin taglia la linea del traguardo quinto, Maxime ha un problema tecnico ed il meritato ottavo posto svanisce a poche curve dalla bandiera a scacchi.
Nella seconda Cervellin è nella TOP TEN e battaglia per tutta la manche con un bel gruppetto di piloti. Le posizioni si alternano e proprio all’ultimo giro riesce a superare Walsh prendendosi la nona piazza. Nella classifica assoluta è settimo con 28 punti a pari merito con Pootjes che però gli è davanti, mentre nella Overall generale è decimo a nove punti dal sesto.
Per quanto riguarda invece Maxime c’è da dire che è sceso in pista ma con il morale molto basso per la delusione patita con il ritiro di gara uno. Chiude 18esimo ma la sua faccia a fine giornata dice tutto sul suo stato d’animo.
MICHELE CERVELLIN #747: “Sono soddisfatto di questa gara. Ho fatto un bel quinto posto nella prima manche e un nono nella seconda. L’inizio in Argentina non era stato proprio come volevo. Qui invece sono tornato ai livelli dello scorso anno. Ora andiamo in Belgio per lavorare ancora sulla velocità e sulla tenuta atletica e anche per preparare la gara dell’Olanda in programma la prossima settimana.”.
Doveva essere la gara d’esordio di Andrea Adamo nell’Europeo EMX250, ma purtroppo il siciliano ha dovuto disertare la gara per la frattura ad un dito della mano sinistra nella prima prova dell’Italiano Prestige a Cingoli.

In England Michele Cervellin finished 7TH; a lot of bad luck fo Maxime Renaux
After that it started in Argentina, the MX2 World Championship moved to Europe, at the spectacular and fast circuit of Matterley Basin. The circuit surface was perfect and it was not ruined by the rain, which often falls during this time of the year in England.
The GP started well since Timed Practice already for Team SM Action Yamaha riders. Renaux was 11th fastest while Cervellin was 15th. In Qualifying Race Maxime finished 10th while Michele, even though he did not have a good start, finished two places behind the French.
Race 1 was well played by both riders. At the end of lap 1 Cervellin was 6th and Renaux 10th. It was a tough race, as two little groups of riders started battling, but Cervellin and Renaux had a good speed. It all seemed to go well but while Cervellin crossed the finish line in 5th place, Maxime had a technical issue and his deserved 8th place vanished away when there were a few corners before the checkered flag.
In Race 2 Cervellin was in the TOP TEN and he battled for the whole race with a crowded group of riders. The positions changed many times but eventually during the last lap, he managed to overtake Walsh, taking the 9th place. In the Final Classification of the weekend he is 7th, with 28 points, same amount of Pootjes, while in the Overall Classification he is 10th with only 9 points of gap from the 6th place.
About Maxime, his moral went really down after the last lap retirement of Race 1. He went on track for Race 2 with a lot of disappointment and he finished 18th. His face, at the end of the day, spoke for him and for his mood.
MICHELE CERVELLIN #747: “I’m satisfied for the weekend. I classified well in both races, 5th in Race 1 and 9th in Race 2. In Argentina things didn’t go as expected. Here, instead, I went back to the level that I had last year. We will now move to Belgium, trying to find some more speed and working on my physical shape, to prepare at the best for the next week’s race in Holland”.
It should have been Andrea Adamo’s debut in the EMX250 European Champioinship this weekend. Unfortunately, the Sicilian had to stay home due to his left hand finger that fractured in Race 1 of the first round of the Italian Prestige Championship at Cingoli.
