Jeffrey Herlings, 4° assoluto all’Hawstone Park International 2023 nel Regno Unito per il suo primo incontro significativo dal novembre 2021. In una giornata soleggiata , l’olandese ha portato sul sabbioso percorso inglese la KTM 450 SX-F del Red Bull KTM Factory Racing i primi due risultati di manche 7º-2º.

Herlings, campione del mondo MXGP nel 2018 e nel 2021, ha continuato la sua preparazione e il percorso per tornare alla velocità del campionato del mondo contro i rivali dei Gran Premi in Gran Bretagna.
Il 28enne ha saltato la stagione 2022 a causa di una frattura al tallone sinistro e delle successive operazioni di riparazione, ma ha testato la sua condizione per la prima volta nel 2023 in un evento regionale vicino ad Arnhem, nel suo paese natale, la scorsa settimana.
La trasferta ad Hawkstone ha quindi rappresentato un ritorno alla “normalità” pre-campionato per Herlings, una gara che aveva vinto in precedenza nel 2020.
È arrivato 7º in gara uno dopo aver giudicato male il grip dal cancelletto di partenza di Hawkstone, ma poi è tornato al secondo posto nella seconda manche nonostante abbia subito un piccolo incidente. Il numero 84 parteciperà ora a La Capelle-Marival International in Francia il prossimo fine settimana per il suo ultimo sprint prima che MXGP si accenda con il Gran Premio d’Argentina l’11-12 marzo.
Jeffrey Herlings: “Sarebbe potuto essere meglio ad essere onesti, ma so che ho bisogno di un po’ di tempo per tornare dove dovremmo essere. Il quarto posto non è stato male, ma una caduta e una brutta partenza non hanno aiutato. La prossima settimana dovrebbe andare meglio. Avevano una griglia di partenza diversa qui rispetto a quella che abbiamo nei GP ed era davvero scivolosa. Ho fatto un po di casino in gara uno, sono caduto nel seconda, ma per il resto la guida è stata abbastanza decente. Lavoreremo e lavoreremo da questo punto“.

HERLINGS INCREASES SPEED TOWARDS 2023 MXGP WITH HAWKSTONE PARK RUN
Jeffrey Herlings classified 4th overall at the 2023 Hawkstone Park International in the UK for his first significant meeting since November 2021. The Dutchman took the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing KTM 450 SX-F to 7-2 results in sunny conditions at the sandy English course.
Herlings, MXGP World Champion in 2018 and 2021, continued his preparation and path back to world championship speed against a handful of Grand Prix rivals in Great Britain. The 28-year-old missed the 2022 campaign due to a broken left heel and subsequent reparative operations but first tasted a gatedrop in 2023 with a regional event near Arnhem in his native country last week. The trip to Hawkstone then represented a return to pre-season ‘normality’ for Herlings and a fixture he’d won previously in 2020.
He rode to 7th in the opening race after misjudging the grip from the Hawkstone start gate but then fired back to be runner-up in the second moto despite suffering a small crash. #84 will now enter the La Capelle-Marival International in France next weekend for his final sprint before MXGP fires-up with the Grand Prix of Argentina on March 11-12.
Jeffrey Herlings: “It could have been better to be honest but I know l require a bit of time to get back where we should be. 4th was not too bad but a crash and a bad start did not help. Next week should be better. They had a different start mesh here – compared to what we have in the GPs – and it was really slippery; I messed up the first moto. I fell in the second but otherwise the riding was pretty decent. We’ll work and work from this point.”
