Per il secondo round, il FIM Motocross World Championship sbarca in Inghilterra. In quel di Matterley Basin, due ottime manche consegnano a Horgmo il secondo gradino del podio della EMX250. Fine settimana difficile sia per Adamo nella MX2 che per Forato nella MXGP.

Dopo il round russo di Orlyonok, il FIM Motocross World Championship si trasferisce in Inghilterra sul bellissimo e velocissimo tracciato di Matterley Basin per disputare il secondo round in programma di questa stagione 2021. Per l’occasione, scendono in pista anche i ragazzi del Campionato EMX250, che sul tracciato inglese aprono ufficialmente la loro stagione.
Kevin Horgmo #24
L’SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery si presenta così al completo con il norvegese Kevin Horgmo #24 schierato nel Campionato EMX250; i due italiani Andrea Adamo #80 e Alberto Forato #303 schierati rispettivamente nella classe MX2 ed MXGP. Per Alberto, reduce da un lungo infortunio, questa è la gara d’esordio nel mondiale in questa stagione 2021.
Come lo scorso anno, la giornata di sabato è dedicata alle classi di contorno perciò è il norvegese Horgmo a saggiare per primo il fondo del lungo tracciato di Matterley Basin. Nelle prove libere, Kevin è assegnato al gruppo 1 e si dimostra subito velocissimo facendo segnare il 2° tempo. Nelle seguenti prove cronometrate, Kevin si migliora e centra il 1° tempo, ritrovandosi 2° in griglia di partenza.
Dopo una breve pausa, nel primo pomeriggio i piloti si allineano per prendere il via di gara 1. Kevin parte subito forte e al termine del primo giro è 6°. La progressione del norvegese verso la parte alta della classifica è decisa e costante lungo tutta la durata della corsa e sul traguardo del 12° giro, Horgmo conquista un ottimo 3° posto.
Nella seconda e conclusiva manche, Kevin centra subito il 3° posto e nel corso del secondo passaggio guadagna una posizione stabilizzandosi in 2a piazza. Seguendo la scia del leader, guadagna velocemente terreno sugli inseguitori e al temine della manche, si conferma 2°. A fine giornata, dal computo della manche, viene accreditato del 2° posto e sale sul podio, iniziando nel migliore dei modi questa sua avventura 2021 nel Campionato EMX250.
Andrea Adamo #80
Per quanto riguarda Andrea nella classe MX2, la sua domenica inizia con un 26° tempo nelle prove libere; tempo che l’italiano migliora di poco nelle seguenti cronometrate chiudendo 22°. Nelle prima manche lo spunto in partenza permette ad Andrea di posizionarsi subito 9° ma una caduta al secondo giro lo relega ai margini della ‘top 20’. La sua gara termina con un 18° posto. Nella seconda manche l’avvio di gara è leggermente più arretrato con Andrea che si ritrova 14°. Per tutta la parte centrale della corsa il pilota della GasGas staziona in 15a piazza ma a pochi giri dal termine, effettua due sorpassi e chiude 13°. Il suo GP d’Inghilterra termina con un poco soddisfacente 16° posto di giornata che lo arretra di una posizione in classifica generale dove ora è 14°.
Nella classe MXGP, prestazioni poco brillanti anche quelle di Alberto che ancora risente del lungo stop dovuto all’infortunio al ginocchio. Dopo un 28° nelle libere, Forato chiude 32° le cronometrate. Con un cancelletto molto lontano dalla linea ideale per centrare una buona partenza, Alberto si ritrova in fondo al gruppo in entrambe le manche e le sue gare si svolgono tutte nelle retrovie. A fine giornata è 31° in entrambe le manche e in classifica finale viene accreditato della stessa posizione.
Alberto Forato
Il terzo round del FIM Motocross World Championship si terrà in Italia nel weekend del 3 e 4 Luglio. Il tracciato designato per ospitare l’evento è quello storico di Maggiora (NO). Per rivedere in pista i ragazzi del Campionato EMX250, bisognerà invece attendere il 17 e 18 Luglio quando il mondiale farà tappa in Olanda sul tracciato sabbioso di Oss.
Kevin Horgmo #24: “In gara 2 sono partito meglio ma come nel campionato italiano ho faticato a recuperare terreno su Lapucci ma mi sto avvicinando sempre di più. Tutto sommato sono contento del mio risultato odierno e sono contento di essere tornato sul podio dopo una stagione difficile come quella dello scorso anno.”
Andrea Adamo #80: “Purtroppo in gara 1 un contatto mi ha fatto retrocede in 18a posizione. In gara 2 ho duellato per tutta la manche ma non sono stato rapido nei sorpassi e il gruppo di testa si è allontanato. Di conseguenza ho chiuso 13°. Cercherò di migliorarmi in Olanda.”

FIM Motocross World Championship went to England for the second round of the season. At Matterley Basin Horgmo had two excellent races that rewarded him the podium in 2nd place in the EMX250. Hard weekend for both Adamo in the MX2 and Forato in the MXGP.
After the round in Orlyonok, FIM Motocross World Championship moved to England at the beautiful and very fast circuit of Matterley Basin to race for the second round of the 2021 season. For this occasion, the EMX250 Championship riders were in there too to open their agonistic season.
SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed all of its riders: the Norwegian Kevin Horgmo #24 in the EMX250 Championship and the Italians Andrea Adamo #80 and Alberto Forato #303 respectively in MX2 and in MXGP classes. Alberto made his debut in the 2021 World Championship as he was back from a long time of recovery for an injury.
As it was in the past year, Saturday was scheduled to be the day of the minor classes, so it was Horgmo to be the first of the Team to try the surface of the long circuit of Matterley Basin. In Free Practice Kevin made the 2nd fastest lap time of group 1, and he improved in Timed Practice as he was the fastest of his group, gaining the 2nd overall place at the starting gate.
After the lunch pause, the riders lined up in the afternoon to start Race 1. Kevin had a great start and after the end of lap 1 he was 6th. His progression to the top was firm and consistent for the whole race and at the checkered flag, after 12 laps, Horgmo crossed the line in an excellent 3rd place.
In Race 2 Kevin gained the 3rd position straight away, and during lap 2 he moved up to 2nd. He then followed the trail of the leader and he confirmed the 2nd place at the finish line. At the end of the day the good result was confirmed by his 2nd place Overall, so he started in the best possible way his adventure in the 2021 EMX250 Championship.
In the MX2 Andrea started his weekend with the 26th place in Free Practice, with a lap time that he improved a little during Timed Practice as he finished 22nd. In Race 1 the start allowed Andrea to gain the 9th position but a crash during lap 2 forced him to move back to the margins of the “top 20”. He then finished the race in 18th place. In Race 2 Andrea had a worse start as he found himself in 14th position. For the whole central part of the race the GasGas rider was firm in 15th place but when there were a few laps to the end he made a couple of overtakes and he finished 13th. His GP of England ended in 16th place Overall, a result that was not really satisfying as he moved back one position in the General Classification, where he is now 14th.
In the MXGP Alberto did not have good performances too, as he was still suffering from the long stop due to the injury at his knee. After that he made the 28th fastest lap time in Free Practice, Forato ended Timed Practice in 32nd position. His starting gate was then far away from the ideal starting trajectory, so Alberto was in the back of the group in both races and his whole day passed by in the last positions. At the end of the day he was 31st Overall.
The third round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will take place in Italy on the weekend of the 3rd and the 4th of July. The track that will host the event will be the historical Maggiora circuit, in the Province of Novara. The EMX250 Championship will instead have its second round on the weekend of the 17th and the 18th of July, when the World Championship will go to Holland on the dusty circuit of Oss.
Kevin Horgmo #24: “In Race 2 I had a better start but, as happened in the Italian Championship, I struggled to recover to Lapucci, even though I’m still gaining. After all I’m happy for my result and I’m happy to be back on the podium after the difficult past season”.
Andrea Adamo #80: “Unluckily in Race 1 I made contact with another rider and I moved back to the 18th place. In Race 2 I was not that fast while overtaking and the top riders group moved away. Consequently, I finished 13th. I will try to improve in Holland”.
