Nella conferenza stampa di oggi tenutasi nella sala stampa di Mantova, il presidente di Infront Moto Racing Giuseppe Luongo e il presidente della FIM Jorge Viegas hanno consegnato a Cairoli un premio alla carriera e hanno annunciato che il numero 222 sarà ritirato al termine della stagione dal Campionato del Mondo FIM di Motocross, il che significa che Cairoli terrà a questo numero di gara per sempre. Lo straordinario onore è stato riservato ad Antonio Cairoli per celebrare la sua strepitosa carriera.

Antonio Cairoli: “Grazie a tutti per questa bella conferenza stampa, proprio non me l’aspettavo. Qui in questo paddock penso di essermi fatto molti amici e penso di piacere a tutti perché sono quello che sono dentro e fuori la pista. Vorrei poter rimanere più a lungo, ma il mio corpo non recupera più come un tempo. Penso che sia ora di fare qualcos’altro, ma di rimanere ovviamente all’interno del paddock e aiutare gli altri ragazzi a crescere e a seguire lo stesso sogno che avevo da bambino. Grazie a tutti per questa fantastica avventura, sono davvero felice di essere qui e spero di continuare ad aiutare la MXGP e tutti i ragazzi che stanno sognando.”
Giuseppe Luongo Presidente Infront Moto Racing: “Antonio ha fatto la storia della MXGP, non solo con i suoi numerosi titoli, ma anche con il suo comportamento, con il suo rispetto e con la sua correttezza, è un esempio per tutti i giovani. Ci mancherà Antonio in pista, ma speriamo che non ci mancherà nel nostro mondo dove continuerà ad offrire la sua esperienza e conoscenza alle prossime generazioni.”
George Viegas, Presidente FIM: “Cos’altro posso dire. Questo tipo di campioni è ciò per cui lavoriamo. Quando Tony, non il pilota ma l’uomo, ci lascerà, perderemo un membro della famiglia, sentiamo tutti questa sensazione di perdita. Ma Tony starà sicuramente con noi, non so cosa farà ma ovviamente resterà con noi. E sono felice che tu rimanga nei nostri cuori, grazie per tutto ciò che ci hai dato e per favore rimani come sei, un grande uomo. Grazie.”
Pit Beirer, Direttore KTM Motorsport: “Abbiamo avuto il privilegio di far parte della storia di Tony dal 2010. Sappiamo quanto lo apprezziamo come persona e come uno dei migliori piloti che lo sport abbia mai visto, ed è speciale che il il resto della MXGP esprima lo stesso sentimento, ritirando il suo numero. Il numero 222 appartiene a Tony. Ha posseduto MXGP per un periodo in cui ha cambiato il gioco e ha dominato il campionato. Lo ha portato a un nuovo livello per i piloti, mostrando anche una passione per le corse che gli ha permesso di avere una carriera così lunga e straordinaria. Grazie a Infront Motor Racing e alla FIM per aver compiuto questo gesto. Non capita spesso che arrivi un atleta straordinario come Tony.”

At today press conference held in Mantova’s press room, Infront Moto Racing President Giuseppe Luongo and FIM President Jorge Viegas presented Cairoli with a Lifetime Award and announced that the number #222 will be retired from the FIM Motocross World Championship, meaning that Cairoli will hold on to this racing number forever. The amazing honor is reserved to Antonio Cairoli in order to celebrate him astonishing career.
Antonio Cairoli: “Thank you everybody for this nice press conference, I really didn’t expect it. Here in this paddock, I think I made a lot of friends and I think everybody likes me because I am who I am in and outside of the track. I wish I could stay longer but my body is not recovering as well as in the past race after race. I think it’s time to do something else but to stay of course inside the paddock and help other kids to grow and to follow the same dream I had when I was a kid. Thanks to everybody for this amazing journey, I am really happy to be here, and I hope to continue to help MXGP and all the kids that are dreaming”.
Infront Moto Racing President Giuseppe Luongo: “Antonio has made the history of MXGP, not only with his numerous titles, but also with his behaviour, with his respect and with his fairness, he is an example for all the young. We will miss Antonio on the race track, but hopefully we will not miss him in our world where he will continue to offer his experience and knowledge to the next generations.
FIM President Jorge Viegas: “What else can I say. This kind of champions is what we work for. When Tony, not the rider but the man, is leaving us we are losing a member of the family. But Tony will stay with us for sure, I don’t know what he will do but of course he will stay with us. And I’m pleased to stay, in our hearts, thank you for all that you gave to us and please stay as you are, a great man. Thank you”.

We know how much we value him as a person and as one of the best riders the sport has seen, and it special that the rest of MXGP feel the same way with this retirement of his number. #222 belongs to Tony. He owned MXGP for a time when he changed the game and brought so much dominance to the championship. He raised it to a new level for riders while also showing a passion for racing that allowed him to have such a long and amazing career.
